AARP Driver Safety Salutes Veterans: Offers Free Classroom Course - The Mobility Resource

To recognize and thank military veterans for their service, AARP Driver Safety is offering a free classroom course or 50 percent off the online course to all members of the U.S. armed forces — active duty, veteran, guard or reserve — regardless of age, from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30, 2012.*

The Veterans Promotion

To locate and register for an AARP Driver Safety course near you, visit the course locator or call 888-AARP-NOW (888-227-7669). Remember to mention November’s special veterans promotion.

This offer is available to individuals who serve or have served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard/Reserves or Coast Guard. Spouses (including domestic partners, widows and widowers), dependents and children are also eligible to take advantage of this promotion.

Why take the course?

Cars have changed since you first received your driver’s license — so have the traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads you travel on every day. Even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills. The AARP Driver Safety course teaches valuable defensive driving techniques and provides a refresher about the rules of the road. Plus, by completing the course you could qualify for an automobile insurance discount from your insurance company. (Contact your insurance agent for more details.)

How do I receive the free classroom course?

You can find a classroom course by checking the course locator or by calling 888-AARP-NOW (888-227-7669). Registration is required and participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, as space is limited. To redeem the free offer, all veterans and dependents must present a completed coupon (PDF) to the host organization or the volunteer instructor at the time of registration or payment. Participants must fill out all required fields on the coupon. No additional identification is needed.

What if I can’t find a convenient classroom course in my area?

As an alternative to the classroom course (for example, if you cannot find one that suits your schedule), veterans and their spouses are invited to take the AARP Driver Safety online course at 50 percent off the normal course price. In the online course, you’ll learn the same valuable tips and information as you would in the classroom course, but you can take it at your own pace from the convenience of your home.

To receive 50 percent off of the online course, visit the online course website and enter the promotion code “Veterans” when prompted during registration and checkout. The promotion code is valid from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30, 2012. Upon registration, you will have 60 days to complete the online course.

I’ve taken the AARP Driver Safety course before. Can I take the course for free in November, even though I’m not a first-time participant?

Yes. Any eligible veteran, military member or military spouse may take any version of the AARP Driver Safety classroom course for free in November. This includes the four-hour, four-hour refresher, six-hour or eight-hour classroom course. (Required course lengths vary by state.) Note: This could be highly beneficial for wheelchair van users.
