The best thing about this time of year is if you’re starting to get restless, you can always hit the road in your wheelchair accessible van.
If you’re looking for a last-minute vacation idea, pack up your van and head for the Abilities Expo In Houston. The event will take place from August 3 – 5, 2012 at the Reliant Center.
According to their website, “Abilities Expo has been the one show dedicated to educating and improving the lives of Americans with disabilities, senior citizens, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals and professional therapists.” Held for the last 30 years, the expo is a platform for companies to demonstrate their latest products and services. Some of the companies participating this year include Access Elevator Inc., BraunAbility, Easy Access Travel, Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN) and wheelchairtraveling.com.
Visitors can participate in a variety of workshops. These workshops cover topics like selecting the right wheelchair van, how to travel by air, sea or car while using a wheelchair, how to exercise at home, how to build mainstream relationships for children with disabilities and how to create independence by using Assistive Technology.
At the Chicago event in July, stars from the Sundance Channel‘s Push Girls, were on hand to present a sneak preview of an upcoming episode. They shared their personal stories on what it’s like to be part of a show that challenges perceptions about life in a wheelchair.
