Vacations on the beach can be difficult for wheelchair users. Maneuvering a wheelchair through the sand and surf can be a nightmare.

Fortunately, the Beach Cruiser Wheelchair offers a solution for this problem. And depending on where you live, you could possibly experience it this summer.

The Beach Cruiser is a power wheelchair that was specifically designed for the beach. Created by inventor Jerry Nasello, the Beach Cruiser is not only durable and reliable, but practical as well.

Nasello created the chair in 2005 after he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS. The design started as a simple cart that would help him get his supplies for the beach across the sand and to the water without wearing out his arms. After tweaking the design, it eventually became a chair—and after even more additions, it became the Beach Cruiser.

The Cruiser is not widely available yet but is becoming a popular rental property in the area of Fort Walton Beach to Cape San Blas and all places in between. The chairs are delivered the customers, the company gives a quick overview and tutorial of how the operate the chair, and then the chair is picked up at the end of the rental time.

The Beach Cruiser comes equipped with features such as:

  • Aluminum frame.
  • A vinyl chair complete with seat belt.
  • Wheel-eez tires developed specifically for the sand.
  • Five-speed motored chair.
  • Cup holder and beach umbrella mount for fun in the sun.

Because the chair is self-propelled, the rider can control it themselves, giving them independence and free range of motion on the beach like never before.
